Kickstart your legal career in the busy and exciting Access to Justice Team by working across various services including The Pro Bono Scheme, Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice and the Solicitor Referral Service.This is a full-time role at The Law Society of New South Wales, that works with and for the NSW legal profession, and is situated in the heart of Sydney’s legal district in the CBD.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Director, Access to Justice, the Access to Justice Officer is responsible for providing paralegal and administrative support and referrals for the Pro Bono Scheme, the Solicitor Referral Service, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice and the Locum Service.AccountabilitiesThe Pro Bono Scheme:Processing applications for Pro Bono Assistance including administrative tasks such as opening and closing files, preparing correspondence, making necessary inquiries and obtaining relevant documentation for individual applications, speaking with applicants and other related parties and referring matters to law firms registered with the Scheme.Providing administrative and paralegal support for Pro Bono matters being conducted by the Solicitor, Access to Justice and the Director Access to Justice on an in-house basis. Including but not limited to, drafting legal documents and communications, and preparing briefs to counsel.Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice:Processing requests for appointments or referrals under the various alternative dispute resolution programs offered by the Law Society of NSW, including the Family Law Settlement Service (FLSS) and Mediation Program.The Solicitor Referral Service (SRS):Providing accurate SRS referrals to members of the public using the Solicitor Referral Service database (SRS database).Processing SRS requests from Law Access, email enquiries and face-to-face counter enquiries.Updating law firm information on the SRS database to ensure it is up-to-date and accurate. The Locum Service:Processing requests from firms seeking short or fixed-term assistance with experienced substitute solicitors. Responsible for keeping database of locums up to date.RequirementsCompleted or in the final year of a law degree. Experience working in a legal environment and a demonstrated, genuine interest in pro bono.Experience with databases, mainly searching and inputting data.Ability to prioritise and manage a high-volume case load in a demand driven environment and work within a team.Strong computer skills, including excellent word processing capabilities, database applications and experience using MS Word and Excel.ApplicationsThe Law Society of New South Wales is committed to building and maintaining a respectful and inclusive workplace, appointing the best person for the role and supporting diversity.  AUD Sydney 2000
