ResponsibilityThe Solicitor, Professional Support is responsible for the management of law practices to ensure compliance with the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW), Regulations and Conduct and Practice Rules. The Solicitor supports law practices in understanding their ethical obligations under the Uniform Law, including the Conduct and Practice Rules and compliance with rules relating to costs, and to advice on practice issues relating to costs.While the Solicitor will generally focus on one of the areas of costs, regulatory compliance and ethics, they will be expected to work across all three areas from time to time.Accountabilitiesto assist practitioners with regulatory, ethical and costs issues, including answering enquiries and through the publication of articles and information resourcesundertake continuing education seminars for the profession on issues in relation to costs, regulatory compliance and ethicsreview standards established for law practices, and other legal practices and business structures involved in the delivery of legal services, to ensure compliance with the Uniform Law.manage the content of the Law Society’s web-based information services relating to regulatory compliance, ethics and costsprovide secretariat support for the Costs and Ethics Committees of the Law Societyundertake research into appropriate regulatory compliance standards, ethical issues and cost matters and assist in the development of training resources for law practicesin partnership with PSD, develop seminars and information resources to respond to emerging trends in relation to regulatory issuesliaise with officers of the LSC and other external stakeholdersto assist generally in the duties performed by solicitors of the Professional Standards Department.assist the Manager, Professional Support and Regulatory Policy with ad hoc project work and initiatives as required, particularly with regard to policy issues relating to the Uniform Law including rule changes.RequirementsTertiary qualifications in law and current practising certificatePractice experience and a sound knowledge in costs is essential.Desirable: An understanding of compliance auditing and/or of Quality and ‘Best Practice’ management principles (based upon training or experience) or relevant practice experience.Demonstrates a high level of professional and technical knowledge of the legislative procedures and the legal profession and regularly keeps abreast of recent developments in this area.Working knowledge of all relevant legislation.ApplicationsThe Law Society of New South Wales is committed to building and maintaining a respectful and inclusive workplace, appointing the best person for the role and supporting diversity.
